How to play Take the Rope
- Everyone online plays on the same mountain, with one climber.
- A challenge appears for all players at the same time: a quick puzzle or a reflex test.
- The fastest correct answer wins the round and takes the rope: the climber moves up one step under their name.
- Instead of climbing, the winner can keep a joker: drop it later to make the climber slip back one step, just before someone else reaches the top.
- Whoever makes the last step to the summit wins that mountain. Their name is shown to everyone, with a link to their profile.
The mountains
Every day starts again at the foot of Mount Fuji, then the climb goes on through Mont Blanc, Kilimanjaro, Denali, Aconcagua and Everest. Each mountain is higher, longer and harder than the one before. Beyond Everest waits Olympus Mons, the giant volcano of Mars, almost impossible to reach.
Each mountain has its own scenery, music and hazards: macaques on Fuji, a charging ibex on Mont Blanc, a grizzly on Denali, the yeti on Everest…
King of the Rope
The player who reached the highest summit becomes King of the Rope and stays at the top of the screen until someone matches that summit. Summits won are never lost, even if the climber is pushed back later.
Frequently asked questions
Is Take the Rope free?
Yes. It is free, runs in your browser on phone or computer, and needs no download and no account: you get a random climber name when you arrive.
Can I play with friends?
Yes. Everyone plays on the same mountain at the same time, so send the link to your friends and race them to the summit.
What does the joker do?
When you win a round, you can keep a joker instead of climbing (one at a time). Drop it whenever you want to make the climber slip back one step. After a slip, the mountain stays calm for a minute.
When does the game reset?
Every day, the climb starts again from Mount Fuji. The King of the Rope keeps their title until someone matches their summit.
