Mic works here but not on Discord?
- In Discord, open User Settings → Voice & Video.
- Set Input Device to the same microphone that works on this page (not “Default” if you have several).
- Raise Input Volume, then use Discord's own “Let's Check” button to hear yourself.
- Check Input Mode: with Push to Talk, Discord only listens while you hold your key. With Voice Activity, lower the sensitivity slider if your voice does not trigger it.
- In the Discord desktop app, make sure your system allows Discord to use the microphone (Windows or Mac privacy settings).
- Still nothing? Try Reset Voice Settings at the bottom of the Voice & Video page.
Microphone not working? Quick fixes
- Allow access. Click the lock or camera icon next to the address bar and set Microphone to “Allow”, then reload.
- Pick the right device. Use the menu above the meter: headsets often appear as a separate microphone.
- Check the mute switch. Many headsets and webcams have a physical mute button or a mute light.
- Close other apps that may be using the microphone (calls, recording apps), then try again.
- Check system settings. On Windows: Settings → Privacy & security → Microphone. On Mac: System Settings → Privacy & Security → Microphone. Make sure your browser is allowed.
- Unplug and plug back USB or jack microphones, or try another port.
Frequently asked questions
Is my audio recorded or sent anywhere?
No. Everything happens inside your browser. The level meter reads your microphone live, and the 5-second test recording stays on your device and disappears when you leave the page.
Why can people not hear me on Discord?
The most common causes are the wrong input device in Discord, Push to Talk turned on, a sensitivity setting that is too high, or a muted headset. Test your mic on this page first: if it works here, the problem is inside Discord's settings.
Does Discord's browser version need permission too?
Yes. If you use Discord in a browser, allow the microphone for discord.com in the browser's site settings, just like on this page.
