How to use this gamertag generator
- Type a word you like (your name, a nickname, a hobby). It is optional: leave it empty for fully random ideas.
- Pick a style, or keep “All styles” to mix everything.
- Press Generate. Tap any result to copy it, or the heart to keep it in your favorites (saved on this device only).
- Not inspired? Press Generate again: every batch is new.
Tips for a great gamertag
- Make it easy to say on voice chat. Teammates will call you by it.
- Keep it short. Short tags look better in kill feeds and scoreboards.
- Use the length slider. Xbox gamertags are limited to 12 characters; other platforms often allow more.
Gamertag name rules
Every name this tool shows already follows these rules, so it can be used as is:
- Between 3 and 16 characters.
- Allowed: letters, numbers.
- Must start with a letter.
Platforms sometimes update their rules. If a name is refused, the platform's own message is the final word.
Frequently asked questions
How long can an Xbox gamertag be?
Modern Xbox gamertags can be up to 12 characters. If the name is already taken, Xbox adds a short number suffix to make it unique. That is why this generator uses 12 characters by default.
How do I know if a name is free on Xbox?
This tool creates ideas; it cannot see Xbox's private list of taken names. Enter it in the Xbox gamertag change screen: Xbox shows if it is available, or which suffix it would add.
Can I use these gamertags on PlayStation, Steam or Epic?
Yes. Raise the length slider if the platform allows longer names. For Fortnite, the Fortnite name generator follows Epic's rules.
