Mic Test

Check your microphone in seconds: see the level move when you talk, then record 5 seconds and listen to how you sound.

Your browser will ask for microphone access. Nothing is recorded or sent unless you press “Record”, and even then it stays on your device.

How to test your microphone

  1. Press Start mic test and allow microphone access when your browser asks.
  2. Talk normally: the meter and the wave should move. If they stay flat, see the fixes below.
  3. Press Record 5 s, speak, then listen to the playback to check your sound quality.
  4. If you have several microphones, switch between them with the menu.

Getting ready for a video call? Check your camera too with the webcam test.

Microphone not working? Quick fixes

  1. Allow access. Click the lock or camera icon next to the address bar and set Microphone to “Allow”, then reload.
  2. Pick the right device. Use the menu above the meter: headsets often appear as a separate microphone.
  3. Check the mute switch. Many headsets and webcams have a physical mute button or a mute light.
  4. Close other apps that may be using the microphone (calls, recording apps), then try again.
  5. Check system settings. On Windows: Settings → Privacy & security → Microphone. On Mac: System Settings → Privacy & Security → Microphone. Make sure your browser is allowed.
  6. Unplug and plug back USB or jack microphones, or try another port.

Frequently asked questions

Is my audio recorded or sent anywhere?

No. Everything happens inside your browser. The level meter reads your microphone live, and the 5-second test recording stays on your device and disappears when you leave the page.

Why does my browser ask for permission?

Browsers never let a website use your microphone without asking. Click “Allow” to run the test. You can remove the permission at any time in your browser's site settings.

What level should my microphone be at?

When you speak normally, the meter should mostly sit in the green zone and only rarely touch red. Always in red means your sound may be distorted: lower the input volume in your system settings.

Does this mic test work on phones?

Yes, on recent versions of Chrome, Safari, Edge and Firefox, on phones as well as computers.
